Sulcata hatchling humidity needs
Sulcata hatchlings are very hardy and easy to care for but they do have specific requirements they need to thrive.
Humidityis very important for the health and well-being of your Sulcata hatchling. A common misconception is that overfeeding your tortoise would create pyramiding on their shell. More recently it’s been discovered that pyramiding is highly correlated with low humidity in the tortoises environment. Humidity can be increased by keeping a small, shallow dish of water in the cage. 70% to 90% humidity is ideal. Just be sure the substrate remains dry. Wet substrate can stick to your sulcata hatchlings shell and cause shell rot.
Well started sulcatas have similar requirements as Sulcata hatchlings But are more robust and active. Maintaining proper humidity throughout your sulcata tortoises is life will ensure a happy healthy shell and tortoise.
