Sulcata hatchling humidity needs

Sulcata hatchlings are very hardy and easy to care for, but they do have specific requirements they need to thrive.

Humidity is very important for the health and well-being of your Sulcata hatchling. A common misconception is that overfeeding your tortoise creates pyramiding on their shell. More recently it’s been found that pyramiding is closely linked to low humidity in the tortoise’s environment. Humidity can be increased by keeping a small, shallow dish of water in the enclosure. 60% to 75% humidity is ideal. Just be sure the substrate stays dry. Wet substrate can stick to your sulcata hatchling’s shell and cause shell rot.

Well-started sulcatas have similar requirements to hatchlings but are more robust and active. Maintaining proper humidity throughout your sulcata tortoise’s life will help ensure a healthy shell and a happy tortoise.
