Our Care Process

These fantastic well-started Sulcatas are primarily nourished with leafy greens that we cultivate ourselves, including native grasses and plants. Romaine lettuce serves as the core of their diet due to its high moisture content and ease of digestion. We also supplement their food with vitamin D to promote healthy bone growth and development.

To maintain optimal health, we keep their enclosures under UVB light, which is crucial for their ability to metabolize calcium properly. Maintaining a humidity level between 65%-75% is essential to prevent shell pyramiding and ensure that their shells grow smoothly. Regular soakings are incorporated into their care routine to keep them hydrated and aid digestion. Although this may sound like a lot of work, the routines are straightforward and easy to maintain, making the process manageable for any tortoise enthusiast.

Gender Considerations

All of our well-started hatchlings are incubated specifically to produce females. While our success rate is exceptionally high—greater than 95%—we cannot guarantee it will be 100%. Our long-standing track record assures our customers of the reliability of this practice. At this stage, both males and females are visually indistinguishable, which can lead to confusion for potential owners.

Be cautious of other sellers who claim to allow gender selection in baby Sulcatas; the only reliable method for determining the sex of a hatchling is through surgical sexing, a procedure that should only be performed by a veterinarian. However, this process can result in permanent damage to the tortoise, making it an undesirable option.
